ODTH - Defeat of the Grave

£22.63

Part of my fashion line focusing on Christian streetwear for all the nations, I present 1 Corinthians 15:55 in English and Greek:

  • Ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ νῖκος; ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ κέντρον?
  • O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (KJV)

I spent many an hour cross-hatching the robes worn by the Grim Reaper, who we see splayed on the ground in a pose reminiscent of another man who suffered defeat. The scythe--while not biblically accurate (there are no mentions of scythes in the Bible, but you can find many angels in the Book of Revelations carrying sickles)--is snapped in two, signifying a finality to death's defeat at the hands of Jesus Christ. By depicting death in a manner well known to current generations, we are enabled to converse about how cultures change over time and how impressive it is that the Scriptures have been so well preserved throughout history.
